Chillicothe Ross Chamber of Commerce
Weekly Update August 29, 2003
PROGRESS CONTINUES: A late October opening is still in the works for Dakota’s Roadhouse being built on Western Avenue. With a little help from the weather, the outdoor patio and fireplace could get a big workout early. Also slated for across the road is a Curves for Women fitness center, one of the fastest growing franchises in the U.S. It features a straight-forward 30-minute workout for women on the go. In other news from the CP Management group which hosted this week’s meeting of the chamber’s board of directors, the Hampton Inn & Suites is slated for some major renovations next year in conjunction with its Hilton Hotels affiliation.
INCLUDE THE CHAMBER IN YOUR BUDGETING PLANS: Even though it’s the end of August, some firms shortly will begin the budgeting process for 2004. Don’t forget to include chamber functions in your figures. In addition to the dues that are invoiced in late December, don’t forget about the annual meeting in February (tickets, table sponsorships, etc.), safety council luncheons monthly, networking luncheons, BAB hosting expenses, advertising on the website, the golf outing in September and the Business Expo in November. The investment in your chamber will bring big dividends all year long.
PROTECTION TOPIC OF PROGRAM: The Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) is the topic for the next luncheon of the Ohio Valley Safety Council. A panel of people who have set up programs in their workplaces will be on hand to talk about the process and to answer any questions. This past week, about 20 attended the council’s program on road rage which featured Troy Sexton from the State Highway Patrol, shown at left. To register for the Sept. 18 VPP luncheon: Safety Council registration
WOULD YOUR FIRM LIKE TO HOST A BAB?: The chamber is taking reservations now for companies wishing to host a Business After Business in 2004. We already have two signed up and the Business Expo will be in November, so that leaves only nine dates available. It’s a great way to showcase your business and to find potential new customers or partners. To learn more, give the chamber a call at 702-2722 or reply to this e-mail. And speaking of BABs, Ohio University Chillicothe will be the site for the next one on Sept. 17. Register now: BAB registration
EXTRA! EXTRA!: Getting your company’s news out to the public is an easy process, but you should know the rules for the best possible exposure. To learn these rules, check out the next Networking Luncheon Wednesday, Sept. 10 in the back room at the Dock at Water. It begins at 11:30 and, in addition to hearing from the local media panel, you’ll get a chance to talk about your business to all the others there. The cost is $10. Networking registration
YOUNG AND CIVIC MINDED?: Then you’ll want to check out the local chapter of the Jaycees. The group is holding a Membership Night Wednesday, Sept. 17 at 7:30 p.m. in the upstairs of The Filling Station on North Paint Street. The only requirement: You must be between the ages of 18 and 40.
MANUFACTURERS GATHERING: The Ohio Manufacturing Matters Forum is designed to coordinate manufacturing campaign messages and strategies, share company communications best practices and provide practical tools for getting employees to the polls in support of pro-manufacturing candidates. The forum will be 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at The Hyatt on Capitol Square in Columbus. It is being sponsored by the National Associations of Manufacturers, the Ohio chapter and several others. The cost is $50. To learn more, contact Bill Gill at 847-549-5867 or bgill@nam.org.
VENDORS LICENSES: Here are the most recent firms to get licenses from the county auditor:
NEW RECEPTIONIST: Vanessa Lynne Adams, a 1997 Zane Trace graduate, is the newest receptionist at Sunshine Tanning Studio.
MARK YOUR CALENDARS: The Downtown Associates is continuing its marketing push for the remainder of this year. The third Friday of each month will find special activities downtown, including many stores open later hours. The theme is moving from Sizzlin Summer Nights to Fabulous Fridays. So, make plans to be downtown the evenings of Sept. 19, Oct. 17, Nov. 21 and Dec. 19.
WORKERS’ COMP DEMYSTIFIED: Is your company looking to be pro-active when it comes to workplace safety? Want to know how to handle some of the newest issues? Workers’ Compensation University is offering educational sessions on a variety of topics. The Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation has scheduled these all-day seminars at various sites around the state. The two closest will be September 26 at Shawnee State University in Portsmouth and October 14 at the Convention Center in Columbus.
