Chillicothe Ross Chamber of Commerce
Weekly Update April 4, 2003
“Here’s to our troops coming home safely and soon.”
BOSTON POPS TICKETS AVAILABLE: Group discount tickets are now available for the Bicentennial Boston Pops concert and other tickets will become available on Monday. The tickets are for the Fidelity Investments Boston Pops 2003 Summer Tour that is being presented locally on Aug. 23 by the Horizon Family of Companies. Group orders of 20 or more carry a 10 percent discount and may be purchased through the Ross-Chillicothe Convention and Visitors Bureau. Community tables which range up to $1,500 and seat 10 are available by calling Jan Nusbaum at 772-8876. All other tickets may be purchased here at the chamber starting Monday. For more information, visit www.chillicothe.com/bostonpops.
A VERY REGAL ENTRANCE: Hats off to city Parks and Recreation Director Brad Cosenza and the city crews for turning the entrance to Yoctangee Park at Paint and Water streets into what inevitably will become an icon picture for the city in the future. The statue of local Civil War hero Col. Richard Enderlin makes for a majestic site and sight. We apologize that we don’t have a photo to share in this edition.
SECOND FORUM ON SCHOOLS IS MONDAY: Receiving input into the final master plan will be the goal of the next Community Forum for the city schools facilities committee. It will start at 7 p.m. and be held in the cafeteria at Chillicothe High School.
HELP US CONVINCE OTHERS: In a few weeks, the chamber plans to begin an advertising campaign that will have several purposes:
One of the best ways to convince others to join is for you to let them know why you value your membership. That’s why we’re soliciting testimonials that can be used in advertising and marketing pieces. We invite you to reply to this e-mail (or send a separate one) telling us in 50 words or less what you value most in your chamber membership or why you think others should join. We’ll put the name of everyone who submits a testimonial into a drawing for a $50 Certificheck that’s redeemable at more than 100 chamber businesses. Please submit your testimonial by April 30.
A CHANCE TO MEET MORE MEMBERS: The next Networking Luncheon is set for Wednesday, April 23 at 11:30 at the Dock at Water and it will be a chance for folks to get to know more about some of our members’ businesses. We’re hoping to have some real fun at this one (not that we don’t at the others) as another way to celebrate the arrival of spring. The cost is $8 and we ask that you register by calling the chamber at 702-2722 or signing up online at Networking registration
WELCOME NEW MEMBERS: Five new businesses became members of your chamber in the past week. Let’s welcome:
COMPANIES TO BE HONORED: The Ross County Safety Council will hand out more than 20 awards to companies with good safety records the past year at its annual awards luncheon. James Conrad, CEO/Administrator of the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation, will be the featured speaker. It is next Thursday at the Horizon Technology Center and the cost is $15. Non-members of the council also are invited. To register online: Safety Council awards luncheon
COUNCIL FEATURES LEGAL COUNSEL: The Ohio Employer Council will hold its meeting Thursday, April 17 at 11:30 a.m. at the Dock at Water. Tina Krueger, legal counsel for the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction, will be the speaker. The cost is $10, payable at the door, but reservations must be made by April 14 to Tammy Eallonardo.
ALL ABOUT CUSTOMERS: “Optimizing Customer Service” is the next topic of the Workforce Academy. Professional Trainer Penny Walk will present the seminar Wednesday, April 30 from 8 a.m. to noon at the Ross County Service Center. Topics will include customer perceptions, telephone techniques and improving communications. The cost is $15 and you may register by calling the chamber of registering online at Workforce Academy registration
WORTH ANOTHER LOOK: If your business isn’t taking advantage of the chamber’s workers’ compensation group rating discount, you might want to check it out. Some companies save up to 95 percent on their premiums through their membership in the chamber because the Bureau of Workers’ Compensation adjusts an individual employer’s rate using the claims history of the chamber group as if the group were one company. For a no-cost, no-obligation analysis of your potential savings, contact Compensation Consultants at 800-837-3200 or visit the firm online at www.cciworkerscomp.com.
SPRING AHEAD THIS SUNDAY: Don’t forget that Daylight Saving Time goes into effect this Sunday. You lose an hour of sleep, but pick up all that daylight to play more golf at our members’ courses.

NEW PERSONAL BANKER: Seth McDonald, shown at right, was recently hired for the Huntington Bank Central Center Office. He is a graduate of Unioto High School, has a BA degree in finance from Wright State University and recently received his Ohio Insurance license which will permit him to sell life insurance and annuity products.
