NEW HR CHAPTER CELEBRATING: The Society for Human Resource Management is celebrating the formation of the South Central Ohio Human Resource Council chapter with a chartering ceremony and reception Wednesday, March 24. All HR professionals and those who have HR as part of their job responsibilities are invited to attend. It will be 4:30-6 p.m. at the Horizon Technology Center off Ohio 104 north. SMART HIRING AS PART OF HR: Screening job applicants effectively, having competency-based job descriptions and other elements of a "smart hiring" system will be discussed in the next Workforce Academy Tuesday. Former Army Ranger David Hart will present "Who's Packing Your Parachute?" from noon until 2 p.m. at the Ross County Service Center as part of the chamber's Workforce Development Program. PATHFINDERS LEARN ABOUT COMMUNITY SERVICE: That was the theme of the March presentation of the Pathfinders Leadership program of the chamber. The participants started at the Salvation Army and made stops at Goodwill Industries (shown at right) and the Ross County Chapter of Red Cross. The program winds up the next two months with Small Enterprise Day in April and Large Enterprise Day in May followed by graduation ceremonies.
BWC REGISTRATION ONLINE: The popular half-day Workers' Compensation University is coming to Chillicothe April 16 at Ohio University-Chillicothe. It is open to anyone wanting to lower their premiums, promote workplace safety and learn about new programs. Safety managers, public employers, labor associations and others can reap the benefits. Also, the general session qualifies for Step 6 credit of the bureau's 10-Step Business Plan and many of the seminars are eligible for continuing education or medical credits. BAB REMINDER, OPENING: Just a reminder that the March Business After Business is one week later than normal, on March 24, at the Scioto Paint Valley Mental Health Center on Ohio 159 north. CONCERT COMBINED WITH DINNER: Southern Hills Academy is holding its second annual Violin Concert for Families Saturday, March 20 at the Elks Hall on West Second Street. The cost is $9 for adults and $3 for children and includes a spaghetti dinner. Tickets are available at the academy on Keller Road. As the poster proclaims: "Doodling encouraged, fidgeting expected, cultural exposure guaranteed."
STOCK THAT POND: Do you want some fish in that pond of yours? Then sign up for the Ross Soil and Water Conservation office fish fingerling giveaway going on now. Orders are being taken and can be picked up May 11 in the parking lot at 9 a.m. at the Ross County Service Center. Species available are largemouth bass, channel catfish, yellow perch, bluegill and others. Call the conservation office at 772-4110.
HELP GUIDE OUR VISITORS: Volunteers to man the caboose at the head of Yoctangee Park this summer are being sought by the Ross-Chillicothe Convention and Visitors Bureau. The caboose will be open Memorial Day to mid-October 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays and noon to 4 p.m. weekends. If interested, give Jane Bost a call at 702-7672.

HEALTH FAIR SET: Thursday, April 8 will be the Ross County Health District's Health Fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Free services such as blood pressure checks, immunizations for children, cholesterol testing, HIV testing and breast and skin cancer assessments will be available at the Ross County Service Center in the conference rooms.
