CHERIE FRENCH ELECTED CHAIRMAN: She’s worked in various positions at WearEver, InfoSight and Petland corporate headquarters and now she is a top aide to the director of the Ross County Department of Job and Family Services. The 1968 graduate of Chillicothe High School becomes only the third woman to be chairman of the chamber’s Board of Directors. Going before her were Deborah Burley in 1987-88 and Connie Smart in 2002. Also elected to leadership positions at Thursday’s board meeting were Vice Chairman Ed Behanna, Treasurer Garry Mick of Kenworth, and board officers Lee Bendtsen of NewPage, Lawrence Brown of LW Brown Enterprises and Jim Butt of B&B Roofing. Bill Beatty remains on the Executive Committee as immediate past chairman. All begin their positions Jan. 1.

FOUR ELECTED TO BOARD: Also in Thursday’s meeting, four new members were elected as directors. Joining the board in January will be Randy Fowls of Velvet Ice Cream, Adam Halm of Halm Financial Services, Doug Shoemaker of Huntington Bank and Chad Walters of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Centers and Body Zone Fitness Center. They will serve three-year terms. Going off the board after serving two full terms is Rob Robson of Security Engineering.

JOINING THE CHAMBER: Another new face will become a member of the chamber team as Elizabeth Camponeschi has been hired as the new workforce development manager, starting Jan. 3. She has worked the last 10 years at Ohio University-Chillicothe in the Continuing Education Department as a business and industry consultant. Her duties included designing and implementing workforce training programs and creating marketing materials for local businesses. She also worked 10 years for the Pickaway-Ross Career and Technology Center as a computer instructor and consultant. She replaces Angela Pridemore who is taking an ownership position in Grinders Deli and Café in downtown Chillicothe.

CITIZENS, USEC PUT ON GREAT BAB: About 150 jammed into the lobby of Citizens National Bank to enjoy the food of PC Treats of Waverly and get in some holiday networking. The bank and co-sponsor USEC had great prizes available, including cash, and the local cancer society raised some funds through a raffle and door prize drawings. ProScan Imaging on North Bridge Street is hosting next month’s Business After Business on Wednesday, Jan. 18. Click here for photos from this past week's BAB.

CALLING ALL CEOs: To remain eligible to receive the 4 percent premium discount incentive from the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation, companies must have their chief executive officer in attendance at the next luncheon of the Ross County Safety Council. At least three CEOs will be on the panel to discuss how they engrain a culture of safety at their places. The event is Thursday, Jan. 12 at the Chillicothe Country Club starting at 11:30. Make reservations now: Safety Council CEO luncheon registration

OHIO CHAMBER ON NETWORKING MENU: Linda Woggon, the vice president for governmental affairs for the Ohio Chamber of Commerce, will brief the local chamber on the issues it will be pushing in the next session of the General Assembly. TOYS FOR KATRINA’S KIDS: Six chamber members teamed up recently to collect and deliver toys to Fort Knox as part of the Marines’ Toys for Tots program. Recipients will be victims of the hurricane now living in that area. Making it happen were Patrick’s Pub, CP Management, Herlihy Moving and Storage, Classic Brands, Dakota’s Roadhouse and Security Engineering. Shown in the photo provided by Rob Robson are two of the Marines sorting through the donations.
