Chamber officers, board members
elected for 2007

ChairmenEd Behanna, a retiree from the local PPG operations and a former Purdue University football player, becomes chairman of the chamber's Board of Directors on November 25. Formerly vice chairman, Behanna becomes chairman a month earlier than planned following the resignation of Cherie French, effective Nov. 24.

French, contract evaluator for the Ross County Department of Job and Family Services, is taking a position with a pharmaceutical firm in Wilmington, NC. The 1968 Chillicothe High School graduate, has been involved in chamber activities for 16 years, including the last six as a board member and officer. She told the board at its meeting Thursday that she very much as enjoyed her work with the chamber and thanked everyone for their contributions. She was presented a gift from the board for her service.

Behanna was elected chairman of the board for 2007 as the slate of officers and new board members was approved. In addition to Behanna, the Executive Committee next year will be: Vice Chairman Liz Corzine of Litter Quality Propane, Treasurer Garry Mick of the Kenworth Truck Company and board officers Lee Bendtsen, Jim Butt of B&B Roofing, Lana Corcoran of ArtTech Signs and Ken Shelton of Preferred Staffing of Ohio.

Elected to a second three-year term on the board were Pat Nichols of Traditions of Chillicothe, Henry Thrapp of Chillicothe Pepsi and Christina Schramm of Chillicothe Nursing and Rehabilitation. Joining the board for their first terms in January will be Matt Allen of the City of Chillicothe, Linda Shimp of the YSK Corporation and Mark Shuter of Adena Health System.

ExpoEXPO/BAB A HUGE SUCCESS: An estimated 230 chamber members and guests mingled among the 30 exhibitors in the Elks Hall Wednesday evening at the annual Expo/BAB sponsored by Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield. At least 30 went home with door prizes ranging from an OSU pail to gift certificates at area restaurants. Exhibitors got a chance to talk face to face with potential customers about their products and services while everyone got a chance to enjoy free pizza and music. Check out the more than 30 photos from the event: Expo/BAB gallery. The December Business After Business has been moved back to Traditions of Chillicothe to help it celebrate the opening of its new addition on Western Avenue. The date is Wednesday, Dec. 20.

COMPANIES IN THE NEWS: Several local firms were in the spotlight recently:

  • Our three local radio stations appear headed for new owners as Clear Channel announced Thursday it is being acquired by private investors for nearly $19 billion. The announcement noted that the 448 stations not in the Top 100 markets will be sold, meaning WKKJ, WBEX and WCHI will have new owners come some time next spring, as they reported in their news broadcasts Thursday.
  • Kenworth hosted 100 fleet executives at the Chillicothe plant recently so they could learn first-hand of the new models and engines available next year. They also got a look at the expansion project that will be part of manufacturing the new T660 model.
  • Standard & Poor's Equity Research report in Business Week puts a 12-month target price on Glatfelter stock at $21 a share. The closing price Thursday was $14.89. "We believe it (Glatfelter) has shown more stability than many of its peers, and it has remained profitable over the entire period, which we view as impressive," the report said.

HR GROUP ELECTS OFFICERS: The local chapter of the Society of Human Resource Management recently elected its officers for the coming year. Tim Robison of TPR Personnel will be president. Other: Trevor Kendall is president-elect, Julie Bolen vice president-membership, Lisa Humphrey secretary, Kelly Stevens treasurer, Cheryl Barlage past president and Bob Polca and Beth Mitten at-large officers.

DONATION TO HELP NEW CENTER: Ohio University-Chillicothe Dean Richard Bebee was happy to accept the $10,000 check this week from National City Bank's Nancy Russell (center) and Michele Hertenstein that will go toward the soon-to-open Child Development and Family Services Center, in the background. The center is scheduled to open next month.

USEC MAKES PERSONNEL MOVES: Peggy Karr has been promoted to compensation manager for USEC and will be responsible for the company's compensation programs for salaried employees at all sites. She'll continue working from the Piketon office. Joe Deffenbaugh is the new manager for the Lead Cascade Operations and Maintenance for the American Centrifuge Plant. He has 22 years of experience with the gaseous diffusion plant.
