The Elks Hall on West Second Street will be filled Wednesday with the usual crowd of the Business After Business as they mingle among the nearly 30 exhibitors to the chamber’s Annual Expo. That also means nearly 30 door prizes will be given away in addition to other offers being made at the individual tables. This is the one time admission ($5) is charged for the BAB as well as for the beverages ($3 for wine, $2 for beer and $1 for water and soft drinks). But the pizza will be free! The event runs 5-8 p.m. with the drawings for the prizes at 7 p.m. To become eligible for the prizes, participants must have a stamped card showing you visited each exhibitor in the hall. The cards will be available at the registration table. This event also is pen to the public, so make sure to invite your friends and neighbors to join you. And, there's no reason to sign up in advance this month.

GLATFELTER LOOKING FOR LOCAL OPERATIONS TO IMPROVE: In its statement on its third-quarter earnings, Glatfelter officials said they expected the Chillicothe operations to add slightly to earnings by the end of this year and add 45-50 cents a share in 2007. “Within the Specialty Paper business unit, our Chillicothe operation did not generate the level of earnings that we had expected,” officials said. “While we are disappointed in the performance of this facility, we are confident the Chillicothe acquisition will create meaningful long-term value for shareholders.” Glatfelter acquired the paper mill in the spring from NewPage after more than a century as a Mead mill.
