LIBRARY OFFERING 24-HOUR SERVICE: The KnowItNow24X7 virtual reference service is now being offered by the Chillicothe and Ross County Public Library. Resources from business to finance, to health and medicine to science are accessible from the site that has librarians staffing the service for real-time answers to questions from users. SAFETY GROUP TO HEAR ABOUT DRUG LAW CHANGE: A new state law which takes effect in October lets employers ask for a disallowance of a workers' compensation claim if a worker refuses to take a drug test. Details of the new law and how it affects the BWC Drug-Free Workplace Program will be explained at the next luncheon of the Ross County Safety Council. Tim McDermott from the regional office of the BWC is the speaker at the Thursday, Oct. 14 event that starts at 11:30 at the Chillicothe Country Club. To register: Safety Council luncheon registration RETIREMENT SUBJECT FOR NETWORKING LUNCHEON: A 40-year veteran of the financial services industry will be on hand at the Networking Luncheon Wednesday, Oct. 27 to discuss retirement plans for profit and non-profit organizations. Jack Sayers, vice president of financial institution marketing for Great American Financial Resources in Cincinnati, will be the guest speaker at the 11:30 a.m. event at the Chillicothe Country Club. And, as always, each firm represented will get 30 seconds to talk about the latest in their industry. MOVE WILL INCREASE AWARENESS: With the chamber's planned move to East Main Street later this year, the daily awareness of the organization itself increases not only for visitors to town, but also for those who've lived in the community all their lives. According to ODOT statistics, 16,360 vehicles pass down Main Street at Paint Street on average each day, or about 9,000 more than pass the present chamber office on Paint Street across from Sixth Street. And when the awareness of the location of the office increases, so naturally will people turn to the chamber as a resource for information, business and otherwise. The search for new quarters lasted a little more than a year and has resulted in a prime location. We think members will be very pleased when the transition is complete, hopefully by the end of the year.
THE LEISURE ROUTE TO FRANKFORT: In the very near future, bicyclists and hikers will be able to go from near Main Street on the city's eastern border all the way to Frankfort without encountering a vehicle or a traffic signal. Another link in that bike trail chain was opened this week with the city's 1.5-mile addition from High Street west to near Larrick Lane, following near U.S. 35. The latest segment was dedicated in ceremonies held at the new parking area off Tiffin Avenue. One of these days, the bike path will get you all the way to Xenia which then can get you to Cincinnati.
GRANT TO HELP FIGHT TEEN PREGNANCY: The Ross County Health District received Thursday the first installment of a $2.4 million, three-year grant to fund abstinence education for 25,000 students in Ross and eight other southern Ohio counties. A representative from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services was on found at ceremonies held in the Service Center. The district was one of only 50 nationwide to receive a grant from the 450 applications and it's the largest in the district's history.
