CHILLICOTHE ROSS CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
Weekly Update October 4, 2002
THEY WERE SIZZLIN!: The team from Accurate Heating and Cooling, captained by Tom White, far right, shot a 15-under par 57 to take first-place honors Thursday in the chamber’s annual golf outing. A total of 91 golfers participated in the event held at the Valley Vista Golf Course near Bainbridge. Also on Tom’s team were, from left, Rodney Winegardner, Josh Young and Rick Lane. Two teams tied for second place: Adkins Financial Services and BrenMar Construction of Jackson. Our thanks to John Brown for hosting the event, Doug Bowers for his leadership on the Golf Committee and to the many sponsors who made this a successful fund-raising event.
SAFETY COUNCIL LUNCHEON: The next one is set for Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at the Ross County Service Center on Western Avenue. Special guests will be Don Rockhold of the county emergency management agency and a representative from the Bureau of Workers Compensation. Call Carrie at 702-2722 to make a reservation.
GET SOME EXPOSURE FOR YOUR ORGANIZATION: The meeting site for the board of directors of the chamber has been moving just about each month. In the past few months, we’ve been at PPG, Horizon Technology and Horizon PCS. In future months, we will be the guests of the Hampton Inn and Suites, MeadWestvaco and Goodwill Industries (by way of Fifth Third Bank). After each meeting, the organization gets 15-30 minutes to give board members a tour of the facilities or to talk about its business. If you’d like to host a meeting in 2003, give Jan a call at 702-2722. The only requirements are that you provide lunch for 18-22 people and provide the venue, which doesn’t necessarily have to be at your business.
BIRTHDAY BASH IS COMING: It will be a belated birthday party, but a celebration of the chamber’s 90th anniversary of its founding will be held Thursday, Dec. 12. We’ll have more details as the date approaches, but count on an informal affair that will have some entertainment and at which recognition will be noted of the chamber’s accomplishments over the years. This will serve as the Business After Business for December. And we’ll all be in the holiday spirit by then.
BUSINESS AFTER BUSINESS: A reminder that the next BAB will be Wednesday, Oct. 16 at Herrnstein Chrysler Dodge Jeep on Marietta Road and will be co-sponsored by Kerr Wholesale. If your company is interested in hosting a future BAB, you better call us quick. The only months we still have available for next year are March, May, November and December. And look for a new addition at future BABs: a raffle of a substantive item, the proceeds of which will help provide funding for the three students participating in the chamber’s Pathfinders program.
EXPO PROVIDED EXPOSURE: There were 48 exhibitors at this year’s Regional Business Expo, the first time the chamber has tried an event of this magnitude. The setting at OU-C last weekend was marvelous and classy and, despite having to compete with the OSU-Indiana football game, attendance was decent. The Networking Committee worked hard to make this the success it was, providing a solid foundation for next year’s event. One of the hits with visitors was the Tastefully Simple booth of Jaclyn and Mary Kay Clipner, pictured at left.
SEMINAR ON WORKPLACE VIOLENCE: The Ross County Area Labor Management Committee is sponsoring the seminar: “Workplace Violence:” What You Really Need To Know.” It will be Wednesday, Oct. 16 at the IBEW Union Hall at 903 Hopetown Road from 9 a.m. to noon. There is no cost, but you must register by an e-mail to rcalmc@bright.net or by mailing information to the committee at P.O. Box 629, Chillicothe, OH 45601.
NETWORKING LUNCHEON: The chairmen of the committees of the Business Growth Council will provide an update of what’s going on with the chamber’s economic development push at the next luncheon. It will be Friday, Oct. 25 at the Ross County Service Center on Western Avenue starting at noon. The cost will be $7. Pre-register by calling Cami or Carrie at 702-2722 or e-mailing us at ccinfo@chillicotheohio.com.
This newsletter goes out weekly to more than 200 of the chamber’s members for whom we have e-mail addresses. If you have an item you’d like to include, e-mail Executive Director Marvin Jones at mjones@chillicotheohio.com.
