A big step in that hurdle is a public hearing Monday, Nov. 15 in which the NRC will hear from people about what environmental issues it should consider. Support for the project in the form of comments at the hearing is being sought. To have your support heard, contact Matthew Blevins of the NRC at 800-368-5642 Ext. 7684 or by email at mxb6@nrc.gov by no later than Nov. 9 to register. More than 500 full-time jobs are at stake in addition to ones for construction. GREAT THIRD QUARTER: Net income and sales more than tripled for the MeadWestvaco Corporation in the third quarter. Better demand and higher prices for its paper and paperboard products were attributed for the good showing. Net income was $105 million or 52 cents a share, up from $27 million and 14 cents a share a year ago. Analysts had expected earnings of 32 cents per share. CHANGE OF PLANS FOR ANNUAL MEETING: The chamber board Thursday approved the recommendation of the Networking Committee to change the way the annual meeting is conducted and added a social event for the spring. The Annual Meeting on Feb. 17 will not include a dinner, but will have hors d'oevres and beverages. The meeting portion will include the introduction of new board members, local business awards, the Entrepreneur of the Year presentation and the keynote address by author Jack Schultz on economic development. The social event in the spring will be designed as a time for chamber members, their spouses and guests to have a good time. Both also will be designed to be fund-raisers for the chamber. HERRNSTEIN'S LOOKS TO THE FUTURE: Bill and Linda Herrnstein have purchased the 6,000 square foot building at 363 Marietta Road next to Herrnstein Chrysler, Inc. in order to facilitate long-range growth plans of its family business. Herrnstein said they will reenter negotiations with another automotive manufacturer to consider this Chillicothe location as a franchise site, and they will also consider leasing some or all of the building which is segmented into 15 separate finished offices and formerly housed Horizon PCS personnel, and Adelphia cable before that. For further information about leasing contact Bob Evans at 703-7690.
