A MOST AMBITIOUS UNDERTAKING: The Jobs 2010 initiative unveiled this week will be the most concentrated, targeted and inclusive economic development campaign the community has seen in maybe 30 years. While development efforts have continued for those 30 years, this marks a concerted effort to focus the many resources of the city, county, Community Improvement Corporation and the chamber with each having a role in the master plan that has been developed. A full-time ED executive is expected to be hired by early next year to coordinate all of the activities. The executive will report directly to the new Economic Development Alliance of Southern Ohio. The alliance for now continues its fund-raising efforts in the private sector to leverage the 25 percent matching grant by the Ross County commissioners. We urge all chamber members to become a part of this initiative to bring 1,500 new jobs to the county in five years. Jobs 2010 information

WHY WE'RE A HUB: Tom Brown and his Ohio University-Chillicothe business class students helped document the fact the city is the regional shopping, dining and entertainment hub for south central Ohio. Been that way almost from the day Chillicothe was founded in 1796. How strong is this element of our economy and what does it mean? Brown will discuss the topic at Wednesday's Networking Luncheon at the Chillicothe Country Club which begins at 11:30. Make sure to sign up in advance: Networking Luncheon registration

NAME CHANGE ONLY: The Medicine Shoppe is now Henderson Pharmacy Services on West Main Street.

FEWER THAN A DOZEN TABLES AVAILABLE: The annual combined Business After Business and Business Expo on Nov. 16 is set for the Best Western Adena Inn off North Bridge Street and more than half the tables have been sold. A crowd exceeding 150 is expected. Call the chamber at 702-2722 to reserve your space. Great weather was a factor in the success of this past week's BAB at the Southeastern Business College which also featured the food of Olde Canal Smokehouse and pet treats from the Chillicothe Animal Clinic, both co-sponsors. Check out more photos from the affair: October BAB

WIN YOUR OWN SHOCKER: Automatic external defibrillators are saving more lives now that companies are installing them in their workplaces. One attendee at the next luncheon of the Ross County Safety Council will win one of the heart-shocking devices that are valued at $1,500. Ed Feil from Leading Edge Medical will talk about the devices at the luncheon on Thursday, Nov. 10 at the Chillicothe Country Club. Sign up now: Safety Council registration
