BAB REMINDER: The next Business After Business is this coming Wednesday at Herrnstein Chrysler Dodge Jeep Daewoo off Marietta Road and is co-sponsored by Kerr Wholesale. It will be 5-7 p.m. To pre-register, call the chamber at 702-2722. Also, look for a special raffle, the proceeds of which will benefit the chamber’s Pathfinders program.

 

LANDMARK RE-OPENING: The public is invited to the grand re-opening of Carl’s Townhouse restaurant Monday at 10 a.m. The historic structure, which was moved from South Paint Street to Walnut and Second streets, has been renovated and is ready for business.

 

GOOD NEWS FOR THE COMMUNITY: In case you missed it, MeadWestvaco is adding 50 jobs and new equipment as part of a consolidation of its sheeter operations. The equipment and 30 jobs are being added to the facility on Chamber Drive while about 20 jobs are being added to the Chilpaco operations.

 

BALLOT DEADLINE IS TUESDAY: Members have until 5 p.m. Tuesday to submit nominations for the Board of Directors for three-year terms that will begin in February. Forms were in the Dateline newsletter that went out last week or are available by calling the chamber office at 702-2722. Completed forms are to be mailed or faxed to Board Officer Cherie French at 250 Riverside St. or faxed to her at 775-2575.

 

EMERGENCY PLANNING: Don Rockhold, left, director of the Ross County Emergency Management Agency, addressed the Ross County Safety Council at its luncheon Thursday. Rockhold talked about how his organization is involved in the homeland security initiative as well as making sure the county is prepared for any emergency, such as flash flooding. Next month’s meeting of the council will be Thursday, Nov. 14 at the Ross County Service Center and will feature Marsha Bevins of Mill’s Pride who will talk about a recent disaster drill her company staged.

 

 

 

 

NETWORKING LUNCHEON: Matt Allen, chairman of the chamber’s Downtown Committee of the Business Growth Council and the city’s development director, will talk about developments in the central business district and some plans for the future at the next Networking Luncheon. It is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 25 at the Ross County Service Center. The cost is $12. Call the chamber at 702-2722 for reservations.

 

ANSWERS FOR THE COLLEGE-BOUND: Ohio University-Chillicothe is hosting its annual College Night Program Thursday, Nov. 7 from 6:30-8 p.m. at Shoemaker Center. The program is sponsored by OU-C, the Ross County Area Guidance Association and the Chillicothe Kiwanis Club. Two-year and four-year colleges will have displays as well as the military services and there will be a special program on financial aid.

 

AAUW BOOK SALE: The annual sale of donated used books will be held Oct. 22-25 at Trinity United Methodist Church’s Fellowship Hall on East Main Street. Tuesday is First Choice Night with an admission of $5 and runs 5-9 p.m. It’s free admission all other days. Barrels for donations are at Kroger, Big Bear, Sack-N-Save and OU-C.

 

AREA ARTIST SERIES: The first event of the season for the Chillicothe Area Artist Series is Saturday, Oct. 26 with Riders In The Sky, fun-loving cowboys who combine acoustical music with great comedy. The event will be at Smith Middle School Auditorium at 8 p.m. Tickets for this event and for the entire series are available at The Pump House Gallery for the Arts, AG Edwards or E.M. Smith Jewelers.

 

CHAMBER MEETINGS NEXT WEEK: Tuesday: Safety Council Steering Committee at 8:30 a.m. at the chamber; Governmental Affairs Committee at the chamber at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday: Services Committee of the Business Growth Council at 1 p.m. at the chamber. Friday: Board Development Committee at Petland at noon.
