The chamber's Executive Committee is asking the Chillicothe administration and City Council to become actively involved in finding ways to get the downtown landmark at Paint and Main streets renovated and revenue-producing in the quickest possible time. The executive director addressed council Monday evening, offering the chamber's assistance to see that the effects of the April 2003 fire are reversed. Council chose not to take any action on the issue at the meeting. Click here to view the Executive Committee's letter to council:
Chamber news
release concerning the Carlisle Building.NEW BENEFIT FOR MANY MEMBERS: Effective this week, many members of this chamber also became members of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce through a special partnership. The partnership joins the small business members of this chamber with the national chamber with small business being defined as those with fewer than 500 employees and it excludes non-profit and educational institutions. Members with this benefit will have access to the U.S. chamber's vast resources for small business, such as a financial toolkit. They also will receive the weekly email newsletter of the U.S. chamber and be eligible for discounts on services such as shipping. Many members already have received their U.S. chamber membership number which gives you access to the resources. Others should be receiving numbers in the next few weeks. All of this is made available with your continued support of the Chillicothe Ross Chamber of Commerce. FARM BUREAU KEEPS SMART GROWTH ON AGENDA: At its annual meeting this week, the Ross County Farm Bureau voted on policies it wants to see pursued at the local, state and national levels. Encouraging the Ross County commissioners to continue to implement as many features of the Smart Growth initiative as possible was one of four adopted at the local level. Smart Growth was a cooperative initiative of the chamber and government a few years back that encouraged progress by implementing good land-use policies. Some of Smart Growth's findings have been used, but many still need support. Other local policies adopted by the farm group concerned burning regulations, reduction of real estate taxes and more control of destructive wildlife, such as deer, geese and beaver. Mike Corcoran was re-elected president of the local group. OLD POST OFFICE IN NEWS AGAIN: Landmark Christian Academy's move to Dayton Street has paved the way for the old post office at Fifth and Paint streets to become offices or retail space.
