CHAMBER EXECS CHIEF TO SPEAK: B.J. Wiberg, the president and CEO of the Chamber of Commerce Executives of Ohio, will headline Wednesday's Networking Luncheon. He'll talk about how to take advantage of chamber benefits and how to become more involved in chamber activities. The event starts at 11:30 a.m. at the Chillicothe Country Club. Make sure to register: Networking Luncheon registration. SECOND TIM HORTON'S ON THE WAY: Ground was broken this morning for the second Tim Horton's in Chillicothe. The restaurant is going up on East Main Street across from Bob Evans and is expected to be open by late fall. REGISTRATIONS ARRIVING: The new class for the Pathfinders Leadership is now forming with several registrations coming in this past week. The deadline is August 27. Check out all the details here: Pathfinders Leadership program ECONOMY, JOB LISTINGS BOTH UP: The chamber's Job Bank website now has about 150 openings listed from area companies and many are reporting great success from their postings, getting many qualified applicants from which to choose an employee. FUND-RAISING POSSIBILITY: The Carson & Barnes Circus is planning to come to Chillicothe in September in 2005 and it is looking for a sponsor. It's a chance to make some money from ticket and other sales. If you're non-profit organization is interested, go to www.circusfundraiser.com to check out the details and to contact the circus. ANOTHER STORE PART OF GROUP: Value Added Business Services, which owns the Mourning's Office Supply stores in Chillicothe and Jackson, recently acquired Stapleton's Office Supply in Portsmouth. ADDED TO PRACTICE: Anna Jenkins will start Monday with the Benson Law Office on South Paint Street. FOOTBALL CLUB LOOKING FOR SPONSORS: Want to feed 60-some hungry athletes? The CHS Touchdown Club is looking for sponsors for pregame meals for the Cavalier team this coming season. There will be 10 games and the cost is $360 per game. TRYING TO REDUCE COSTS: According to a survey by the Ohio Chamber of Commerce, 70 percent of the state's organizations saw an increase in health care premiums with the average hike at 14 percent. It notes Ohio employers are paying 22.7 percent of total payroll dollars on voluntary benefits that also include pension plans and dental and life insurance. What are firms doing to reduce health care costs? The survey said 51 percent increased the employee portion of the premium, 22 percent changed carriers and 38 percent increased the deductible levels. BENEFIT YARD SALE NEXT WEEK: Pioneer School will have its annual Yard Sale next Wednesday through Friday in the gymnasium on County Road 550. Hours are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday and 9 a.m. to noon Friday. Proceeds benefit the school's levy fund. GOVERNMENT MANAGEMENT PROGRAM AVAILABLE LOCALLY: For the first time, Ohio University-Chillicothe will be offering the Ohio Certified Public Manager Program, starting Sept. 10. It is a two-year, part-time accredited program for state, county and city employees. The application deadline is Aug. 20 and more information is available by calling Karen Davis toll free at 877-321-6276 or by visiting http://das.ohio.gov/hrd/ocpm. NATIONAL HONOR TO GO WITH STATE AWARD: The Chillicothe chapter of Business and Professional Women took third place in the national organization's "Excellence in Advocacy" contest for its Women's Business Expo held last April. The organization took first place in the state contest. Penny-Pelikan Dehner accepted the award at ceremonies in Florida recently. | |
