Young Professionals Network

off to a great start

The back room at the Dock at Water was packed Thursday evening by the 85 who are interested in learning more about the chamber’s new Young Professionals Network. The informational meeting will be followed by future meetings that take into account the feedback from the first meeting. Attendees completed surveys seeking input on the future direction of the organization. Check out photos from the inaugural event: YPN kickoff

TURNING LEMONS INTO MURALS: At Wednesday’s Business After Business at Horizon Chillicothe Telephone, make sure to buy a $1 lemonade from the stand there. Your purchase will be matched by Horizon and the proceeds will match the next mural project in downtown Chillicothe. Eric Henn, the artist painting the Horizon mural, will be on hand to discuss his work. Hamburgers, hot dogs, pulled pork sandwiches, baked beans and brownies served picnic style will be the fare along with the regular beverages. Door prizes are coming from major TV networks such as ESPN, Fox and Bravo and the grand prize is a wireless internet router. Everyone attending will receive a hat. Make sure to sign up: BAB registration.

SPEAK UP ABOUT THE TRAFFIC: The planning and engineering departments of both the city and county have launched the first major review of the combined Thoroughfare Plan since it was finished in 1998. An Oversight Committee met this week to begin the process of identifying future projects that, if completed, would provide better traffic flow throughout the county and city. The committee is now seeking input on possible projects, so if you have a favorite pet traffic peeve, now’s the time to speak up. Reply to this email with your suggestion or your complaint which will get back to to the committee. From the 1998 plan that identified 11 major projects, many have been completed, such as Veterans Parkway and the Ohio 207 connector that provides another bridge over the Scioto River north of the city. A revised plan should be accomplished in 6-9 months and will involve public input all along the way.

PACCAR REWARDS SHAREHOLDERS: The parent company of the Kenworth Truck Company this week announced not only its regular quarterly dividend of 20 cents a share, but also that it was giving investors one more share of Paccar stock for every two they own now. The regular dividend will be paid Sept. 5 on both the new and old shares.

CVB LOOKS TO GROW FLOWER POT PRIZE: The winning artist of the annual Flower Pot competition of the Ross-Chillicothe Convention & Visitors Bureau will receive the People’s Choice basket. The bureau is accepting donations for the basket now from businesses. Before the flower pots are auctioned at the August BAB at the Majestic Gardens, votes are being taken at the Ross County Recorder’s Office in the courthouse and at the Welcome Center at 45 E. Main St. Proceeds from the auction benefit the Chillicothe Art League Scholarship Fund. To donate an item for the basket, call the bureau at 702-7677 or email at info@visithistory.com. Also, joining the CVB staff recently as tourism assistant was Betty Barker.
