GROWTH WAS SLOW: As noted in the chart below, Ross County grew by 1.5 percent in the three years since 2000, according to the latest estimates of the U.S. Census. That was a gain of 1,079. Surprisingly for some, 15 percent of the growth came in Buckskin Township on the western border and which includes South Salem. The city of Chillicothe also posted a modest gain of 1.7%, or 374. The numbers are used in doling out federal and state grants and other government allocations.

CREDIT UNION GETS NEW HOME: Ground was broken last week for the new modular building that will be home to the Chivaho Credit Union that serves federal employees in Ross County. The structure is going in front of the gymnasium at the VA Medical Center and just west of the stadium. It will feature drive-through service and an ATM. It's expected to open in August. SCIOTO RIVER TO BE ROCKIN: Friday through Sunday will be the first Hoverally for the area in the Yoctangee Park Annex. Admission is free for the event that will feature hovercraft zooming up and down the river from the bridges on U.S. 35 and Bridge Street.  Live music also will be available in the evenings. RESTAURANT OPENS MONDAY: Max & Erma's opens to the public Monday at 11. As with each one, this restaurant's decor is distinctly local with photos and memorabilia from all parts of Ross County and southern Ohio.

 

DIRECTORY WORK BEGINNING: Don't be surprised if you get a call in the near future from Connie Smart of Panther Publishing on the chamber's 2005 Membership Directory and Buyers Guide. Advertising sales are beginning for the publication that will be available in January.

BANK IS BUILDING: Work has begun on the new branch office of Oak Hill Banks at the corner of Western Avenue and Alum Bluff Crossing, across from Dakota's Roadhouse. It is expected to open by the end of October.

 

BAB PHOTOS AVAILABLE: K-C Raceway was a great site for June's Business After Business as witnessed by the great photos by the chamber's official photographer, Doug Etling of Vickers Studio. They can be accessed here: June BAB photos. It also isn't too early to register for the July 21 BAB at the Family Dental Center on Western Avenue. TICKETS STILL AVAILABLE: You still have a chance to take in one of the funniest shows around this weekend, the Second City performance at the Majestic Theatre. In addition to the show, you also can take in some entertainment in front and around the theater starting at 5:30 Friday and Saturday. Beer, wine and cheese will be available as well as a classic car show Friday and live music Saturday. There also will be a silent auction Saturday. The courtyard next to the theater is being groomed into green space (shown in photo) in time for the production which aids the Ohio University-Chillicothe Theater Department. Tickets will be available at the door each night.

FOUNDATION BASICS EXPLAINED: Scott Graham, executive director of the Chillicothe-Ross Community Foundation, pointed out the various ways individuals and companies can make a difference by using the services of the local foundation which is now eight years old. He was the keynote speaker at this week's Networking Luncheon.

 

CHECK OUT AN ACE HOSPITAL: To celebrate the completion of its Ambulatory Core construction and renovation project, Adena Regional Medical Center is holding an open house Sunday 1-4 p.m. In addition to tours of the new areas, you also can get free screenings.

TRAFFIC CHANGES: Ohio 28 from U.S. 50 to Maple Grove Road now has a speed limit of 45 mph, down from 55, for safety purposes while the traffic signal at Western Avenue and Alum Bluff Crossing by Dakota's went into effect this past Monday.

BIKE TRAIL BEAUTY: For anyone who hasn't been on the biking and hiking path, you can see the beauty of Ross County on one of the chamber's new web pages, Adena Recreational Trail. It is accessible through our Tourism links page from the homepage. And this time of year, all 8.5 miles are in full bloom all the way from Maple Grove Road to Frankfort.

 

WORKSHOP FOR HIGH-TECH ENTREPRENEURS: The Information Technology Alliance of Appalachian Ohio is sponsoring a workshop on landing angel investor capital Tuesday in Athens.
