YPN GROUP FORMING: Business folks, those interested in business or those just interested in business activities – and who are in the 21-45 age bracket – are invited to the informational meeting of the Young Professionals Network on Thursday, July 13. A new program of the chamber, YPN hopes to bring together the younger people of the community who are interested in growing professionally and building a network of colleagues and friends. The session gets under way at 5:30 p.m. in the back conference room at The Dock at Water at 80 E. Water St. Food and beverages will be available and there is no admission fee. Participants need not be an employee of a chamber member and reservations are not required.

SPECIALTY MEATS AVAILABLE AT NEW MARKET: John and Cindy Sharp are offering New York strip steaks for $5.99 a pound as part of their ribbon-cutting and grand opening specials at their Sharpy's Shack Butcher and Deli. The couple, who bought and renovated the former Sunnybrook Deli at Fifth Street and Pohlman Road on Carlisle Hill, offer special cuts of meat, rotisserie chicken, Tony Packo's of Toledo sausage, beer, wine and homemade ham salad. To place an order, call 779-6210. Chamber members helped with the grand opening ceremonies Friday morning.

COUNCIL GETS PLANNING ISSUE: Chillicothe’s City Council soon will begin looking at the possibility of hiring a professional planning firm to propose changes in the city’s 30-year-old zoning code as well as take a look at subdivision and thoroughfare regulations. The city Planning Commission this week forwarded to the council a recommendation to look at two firms that submitted proposals. The chamber’s Governmental Affairs Committee approached the commission in April urging a comprehensive review of the zoning code.

CHANGE IN OWNERSHIP: Dorsey and Charles Hudson plan to improve service at The Dock at Water after taking ownership about three weeks ago. Other changes are in the works, Dorsey said, but the emphasis now is taking better care of customers.

FIVE READY FOR LEADERSHIP CLASS: The new class for the Chillicothe Ross Leadership series is now forming and five already have committed to slots in the program. Classes begin with orientation at InfoSight on September 13 and continue the second Wednesday of each month through May. Every class also adopts and tackles a community project. Middle managers, folks new to the community or those wishing a deeper understanding and knowledge of local history, government and business will benefit from the program as well as any others wishing to improve their leadership and management skills. Check out the series and register online: Leadership class.

ADENA SHOWS ITS STUFF: Many of the 200 who were at the Business After Business Wednesday were amazed at what Chillicothe’s historical jewel had to offer while others were amazed at the changes since their last visit 20 years ago. The Adena Mansion and Gardens took advantage of a break in the weather to host the event along with Liberty Village and Pickaway Plains Ambulance Service. Several officials from the Ohio Historical Society also were on hand to mingle and talk with chamber members. Attendees also learned of the formation of the Friends of Adena to aid in its promotion and programs. Next month’s BAB is Wednesday, July 19 at Horizon Chillicothe Telephone at 68 E. Main St. Check out photos from Wednesday’s event: Adena BAB gallery.

FARMERS MARKET HAS GROWING PAINS: Chillicothe Farmers' Market has expanded to welcome new members this year.  The market, in the parking lot of the Ross County Service Center, is open Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon through Oct. 7.
