WELCOME CENTER MOVES FORWARD: The Joint Facilities Committee is looking at two possibilities for the potential new home of the chamber, the visitors bureau and the CIC after receiving seven proposals from our public request. Neither proposal includes the city-owned land on Riverside Street near the floodwall (shown in the photo) as a new building appears not necessary. The committee is investigating the two proposals while also keeping open all other options as in the best interest of the organizations and those they serve. One proposal is from the folks planning to renovate the Carlisle Building; the other cannot be disclosed at this time. The motivation for the center remains: bringing together under one roof those groups who promote the community to the world so as to ensure all resources are being used as efficiently and wisely as possible and that communications among the groups is a daily occurrence. There is no timetable for completion, only the desire to make sure it is done right.
HIGHWAYS ON THE AGENDA: All chamber members are invited to attend Tuesday's meeting (June 15) of the Governmental Affairs Committee in which Ross County Engineer Don Carnes and Todd Long of the local office of the Ohio Department of Transportation will talk about highway and road projects. It will be a good chance to get updates on the progress of the U.S. 35, Ohio 207 connector and Ohio 104 widening projects as well as others in the works. The meeting is at 3:30 p.m. at the Ross County Service Center and no registration is required.
NEW PAGE TOUTS AVAILABLE SITES: A new page devoted to available industrial and commercial sites in Chillicothe and Ross County has been added to the chamber's website. This will give both outside developers and local entrepreneurs a chance to see what land and/or buildings can be used for industrial or commercial purposes. It is not meant to be an all-inclusive listing, but rather a starting point. Included in the listing is the primary contact person's e-mail address and phone number. Listings on the page are free and real estate agents and others with property available are encouraged to call the chamber to have their properties listed. Check it out: Available industrial and commercial sites
