LEADERSHIP CLASS GETS DIRTY -- THEN GRADUATES: The 11 newest alumni of the Leadership Chillicothe Ross program took a Saturday a couple weeks ago to beautify the Carlisle Hill entrance then ended their year in a classy graduation ceremony at the Ross County Heritage Center a week ago. Glatfelter Mill Manager and chamber board officer Lee Bendtsen was the guest speaker. Applications are being taken now for the next class that starts in September. NOW OPEN ON SATURDAYS: To better serve tourists and guests to the community during the peak summer period, the Welcome Center is now open Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. The Chillicothe-Ross Convention and Visitors Bureau and the chamber will staff the center to help tourists during their visits to the community as well as local folks seeking information to pass along to their relatives and friends planning to visit the area. The center is open weekdays 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. except on Fridays when it closes at 4.

PAINTS OPEN THE SEASON WEDNESDAY: Fireworks sponsored by 94 Country WKKJ follow the season-opening game of the Chillicothe Paints on Wednesday. Nourse Chillicothe is sponsoring the game which will also see an appearance by We Be Clowns. Gates open at 5:35 for the 7:05 start. Individual game and season tickets are available at 59 N. Paint St.

OU-C CELEBRATING 60 YEARS: Ohio University's oldest regional campus celebrates 60 years in the community Friday with a special invitation for alumni, friends and others to attend a special pageant, "Two and More Ohio's", at 8 p.m. in the Bennett Hall auditorium. Attendees will receive a free copy of a new book written about OU-C's history by Richard Gilbert. Alumni also are encouraged to visit the campus website to add their memories of their time at "the branch:" www.ohio.edu/chillicothe.

HR GROUP HOLDING 'FUNNY' MEMBERSHIP DRIVE: Kay Frances, the self-proclaimed Ohio's Funny Lady, will provide the entertainment at the special membership drive of the South Central Ohio Human Resource Council on Thursday, June 15 at the Pump House Center for the Arts. The Old Canal Smokehouse is providing the catering for the event that runs 3:30 to 6:30. HR managers and those involved in HR issues are encouraged to attend and learn more about the organization.

VISION TOPIC OF FREE SEMINAR: Steve Hummel of Transition Unlimited! will lead an interactive, participatory seminar on organizational vision on Wednesday, May 31. Sponsored by the chamber and the Ross County Jobs One-Stop, the seminar runs 8-11:30 at the Ross County Service Center. HEALTH CARE EMPLOYERS SOUGHT: A jobs fair and career expo is set for June 21 at Ohio University-Chillicothe to provide employers an opportunity to directly reach potential employees and students in the health care fields. The Pickaway-Ross Career and Technology Center and Healthcare Career Pathways Partners are sponsoring the event. If your firm is interested in space, contact Ericka London at 642-1306 or register online at Health Careers Expo.

REALTORS HOSTING AUCTION: The annual auction for the political action committee of the Scioto Valley Association of Realtors is set for Thursday, June 1 at the Christopher Conference Center, starting at 5:30. Food and beverages will be available.

NEXT BAB IS A GARDEN PARTY: While about 150 enjoyed the great weather, the great food and great conversation at Wednesday's Business After Business at the Nourse Auto Mall, preparations began for the next event at the Adena Mansion and Gardens and co-sponsored by Liberty Village. Plenty of door prizes were handed out Wednesday while many got a chance to check out one of the new vehicles available at the dealership. Check out all the action: BAB photos.

MINI-INTERNSHIPS SOUGHT FOR YOUTHS: Goodwill and and the Pickaway-Ross Career and Technology Center are seeking businesses to host two students each for three weeks, working 4-5 hours a day to help them prepare for life after high school. GOLF FOR SCOUTING SAKE: Teams, players and sponsors who want to help the Boy Scouts might want to consider participating in the annual golf outing on Friday, June 16 at the Players Club Course at Foxfire Golf Club. BOOGIE TO AID MEDICAL RESEARCH: Proceeds from the Boogie at the Boulevard salon on Western Avenue across from Dakota's Saturday go to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Kids activities are planned 1-3 p.m. and a hog roast and beverages for adults start at 3. A double-elimination cornhole tournament also is planned along with live entertainment from 3-midnight.

PROCEEDS TO HELP ALZHEIMER'S UNIT: Traditions of Chillicothe's annual "Dining Under the Stars" fundraiser on June 9 will include an art exhibit, cocktails and dancing in the courtyard. Kay Frances, mentioned above, also will provide entertainment. Tickets are $50 per person or $80 per couple and may be purchased at the door. For reservations, call 773-8107.

BUSINESSES PARTNER: Leading Edge Integration is partnering with Kerio to provide a suite of messaging and security products for computer networks. An email server designed for small and medium-size businesses and a firewall to keep hackers and viruses at bay are part of the product line.

EXHIBITION TO BENEFIT FOOD PANTRY: A canned or non-perishable food item is the price of admission to Wednesday's game between the Southern Hills Academy/Bishop Flaget students and the Ohio Highway Patrol. Donations benefit Operation Feed. Game time is 6 p.m. at Flaget on Parsons Avenue.
