THEY ARE ALL SUMMA CUM LAUDE: The 12 who graduated Wednesday evening from this year's class of the Pathfinders Leadership series are now ready to go out and serve the community. The class had its last session during the day, then took part in ceremonies at the RiverView Conference Center. Ross County Commissioner and Pathfinder alum Theresa Knott was the featured speaker. On Monday this week, the group completed its community service project with the dedication of a bench to the county's military veterans at Camp Sherman Park. Now is the time for your organization to think about who it would like to participate in the next class that begins in September. For more information and an application, go here: Pathfinders Leadership program

FIVE NEW DOWNTOWN BUSINESSES: Just when some thought there was a hesitation to open a business in the historic district, along come five who are making the investment:

HERITAGE TO BE CELEBRATED SATURDAY: A fife and drum corps, Appalachian fiddler, the Renaissance Singers and more will be part of History Day in downtown Chillicothe Saturday. An event of the Ross-Chillicothe Convention and Visitors Bureau, History Day also extends beyond the downtown to all area attractions such as Adena State Memorial, Pump House and Lucy Webb Hayes house. It runs 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. For a complete lineup, check this out: History Day schedule. If you really are into the history of downtown, make sure to pick up a copy of a new map done by Kevin Coleman of Intrepid Historical Services and printed by Printex. It has detailed information on many of the buildings in addition to an excellent map itself of the historic area.

SAFETY COUNCIL ASSIGNMENTS AVAILABLE: If your position includes responsibility for the safety of the company's employees, you'll want to consider becoming a member of the steering committee of the Ross County Safety Council. This committee meets only every other month for about an hour and plans the programs for the monthly luncheons, workshops and helps to recruit new members to the council itself. It's a great way to ensure the programs are relevant and to work with others in the safety field. If you're interested, give Rosie Daughters a call at the chamber at 702-2722 or e-mail her at rdaughters@chillicotheohio.com.

FOLLOWING THE LAW -- A PRIMER: If you've ever wondered about how to handle breaks, meal periods, resolving conflicts between ADA and FMLA and the requirements of COBRA, a seminar coming in June is for you. The U.S. Department of Labor Information Seminar will be Wednesday, June 9 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. It costs $10 and lunch is included. The chamber, the local SHRM chapter and the OSU Extension Service are sponsoring the program put on by the U.S. Department of Labor. For more information or to register, call Lynette Reed at 702-2722 or e-mail her at lreed@chillicotheohio.com.

ROTARY TAKING A SPLASH: The noon Rotary Club is sponsoring Chillicothe Day at Wyandot Lake in Columbus on Saturday, June 5 as a fundraiser. For $22.25, you get admission to the water park next to the Columbus Zoo, all the hamburgers, hot dogs and other food you can eat at lunch and free soft drinks from 12:30 to 2:30. Rotary gets one free ticket for another day at the park and it will re-sell these with the benefits going to the Rotary Foundation. To get tickets or learn more, call Tim Robison at TPR Personnel at 779-2682 or e-mail him at tim@tprpersonnel.com.

CONGRATS TO NEW PLANT MANAGER: Scott Blue is a veteran at the Chillicothe Kenworth Truck Company and brings experience in his new position as plant manager. He took over earlier this week from Alan Mayne who left the company after 17 years to become general manager of manufacturing operations for Freightliner. Blue will oversee the expansion at the local plant which continues to add jobs as it increases its build rate.

LOCAL FIRM GOING INTO HALL OF FAME: Next Friday, Herr Foods, which has a potato chip plant on East Seventh Street, will be inducted into the Small Business Administration's Hall of Fame in ceremonies in Orlando, FL. Based in Nottingham, PA, Herr's grew from a small chip company to a regional snack food operation in several states.

DEER CREEK PROVIDED A FEAST: Fabulous ribs, grilled chicken, Jambalaya, asparagus topped with Hollandaise sauce and decadent desserts greeted those who attended the special Business After Business Tuesday at the Deer Creek Resort and Conference Center. Dianne Doughty and her crew treated the guests to a great time that also included many door prizes, such as the one won by Henry Thrapp of G&J Pepsi as shown in the photo. We're hoping to team again with the chambers in Fayette and Pickaway counties for another outing next year.

NEXT BAB IS WEDNESDAY: The regular monthly BAB of the chamber is this coming Wednesday at Planned Parenthood of Southeast Ohio. Plans include entertainment by Chilli Sauce, catering by New York New York and beer, wine and soft drinks in the parking area of the agency which is on West Second Street across from the Elks. Now would be a good time to sign up: BAB registration
