FEDERAL EXPRESS PLANS DISTRIBUTION CENTER: Construction on a 26,400 square foot distribution center for the FedEx Ground Package System may start Wednesday in the Gateway Industrial Park on Ohio 104. When finished by the end of the year, the center will be the hub for FedEx deliveries to both businesses and residences in the region. Northeast of the former Horizon Technology building, the estimated $3.1 million investment being handled by the Community Improvement Corporation will replace its current facility on McArthur Street. It will be separate from the FedEx transfer facility already in the park. Ten new jobs/contractors are projected to be added in the first year and 24 by the end of 2011 with payroll increasing from the current $2 million per year to $3.8 million. City Council is expected to vote Monday on a request for a 10-year, 50 percent real estate tax exemption.
LOCAL CENTER WINS STATE AWARD: The Chillicothe Readiness Center for the Ohio National Guard on Narrows Road won the 2006 Merit Award for Outstanding Government Building from the Ohio Concrete Masonry Association recently. A SEA OF GREEN AND RED: From a distance, it’s tough to tell the artificial FieldTurf at the VA Memorial Stadium from the real stuff. It was appropriate the Chillicothe High School Cavaliers’ baseball team was the first to play on the new surface Wednesday. There is no dirt in sight as the infield, outfield warning track and a few other areas are notable with their red coloring while the pitcher’s mound also is solid with the new turf. High school teams from all across the county and area will be playing there before the Chillicothe Paints make it truly official in their opener on Wednesday, May 24.
