ABOUT 200 HELP HERRNSTEINS CELEBRATE THEIR NEWS: Shortly after the Herrnstein family announced its plans to build in the new Sabre Industrial Park to accommodate the new Hyundai dealership, about 200 of their closest friends and business associates joined them for the Business After Business on Wednesday. Herrnstein President Bart Herrnstein kicked off the press conference by announcing the firm is building on a 13-acre tract on River Road near where the new Ohio 207 willl connect with U.S. 23, about four miles from the current dealership on Marietta Road. Ground is expected to be broken in August and the 12,000 square foot dealership should open early in 2007. The new 56-acre park on the west side of U.S. 23 is being developed by RG Properties which was represented by Bo Gunlock. DE Huddleston Inc. will be the contractor. The Herrnstein dealership is expected to be part of Hyundai's plans to grow to one million vehicles sold in the U.S. from the present 600,000. Other aspects of the expansion:

  • When finished, the land and building will have a tax value of about $2 million and there will be an inventory of vehicles of about the same amount.

  • Sales will be about $10 million, generating increased sales tax for the county and state.

  • At least 20 new jobs will be created with an annual payroll of about $700,000.

PHOTOS FROM BAB NOW ONLINE: More than 25 photos from the Business After Business at Herrnstein are now online. Herrnstein BAB photos. RG Properties, DE Huddleston Inc. and Classic Brands were co-sponsors.

FUTURE OF CITY TOPIC FOR LUNCHEON: What’s on tap for traffic changes the next few years? Safety forces? Parks and recreation? Mayor Joe Sulzer should reveal some of his plans at the State of the City Address Wednesday at the Chillicothe Country Club. The event begins at 11:30 a.m. A Q-and-A session will follow the address. The cost is $12. Make reservations: State of City luncheon.

GLATFELTER ADDS TO ASSETS: The Great Britain acquisitions announced by Glatfelter this week appears to strengthen its market share in the tea bags and coffee filters specialty. It said it had purchased one mill for $65 million and plans to acquire another one for $21.7 million. Glatfelter is still on target to become the owners of the Chillicothe operations by March 31 in an $80 million transaction.

COMPANY UP AND RUNNING: New chamber member Leading Edge Integration is now offering computer services of all sorts. The firm is offering a comprehensive analysis of clients’ needs, services and expected growth to determine how best to allow the business to concentrate on day-to-day operations, leaving the IT work to The Edge. Services include software and hardware inventory, security patch management and backup and disaster recovery. Joe Corbin and Dusty Countryman, former Horizon PCS managers, recently helped Carver Community Center following the United Way’s Day of Caring program. www.leillc.net

LUNCHEON TO FEATURE A NEIGHBOR: Juggling her duties as mayor of Commercial Point in Pickaway County and her role as Mrs. Ohio America keeps Rhonda Shappert busy. She’ll be on hand to talk about that and relay stories about our National Anthem at the Membership Luncheon Wednesday, April 5 at the Chillicothe Country Club. Citizens National Bank is hosting the first luncheon and will have door prizes following the speaker. Make sure to register: Membership Luncheon information and reservations.

EMPLOYERS STILL HAVE TIME TO REGISTER: Nearly 100 employers around Central Ohio have registered to participate in the 17th Annual Veterans Employer Expo and Job Fair. It will be held Wednesday (March 22) in Shoemaker Center at OU-C from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. If your company would like to participate, contact Richard Shanks, the local veterans employment representative, at 772-7595 or register online at www.geocities.com/jobsforvets/ by 4 p.m. Monday.

NAVIGATE THE COLLEGE FINANCIAL MAZE: Adam Halm of Halm Financial is conducting a College Financial Planning Night Tuesday (March 21) to help parents and others better understand how to complete the forms and use tax credits to get the most out of their investment in education. The workshop is 7-8 p.m. at the Pump House Center for the Arts. Reservations are required and can be made by calling 773-5301 or email collegefunding@horizonview.net.

BWC DIRECTOR TO SPEAK AT SAFETY AWARDS PROGRAM: For the third year in a row, the administrator and CEO of the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation will be the main speaker at the Annual Awards Luncheon of the Ross County Safety Council. William Mabe was named to the position in November following a career as an executive at Nationwide. The luncheon is Thursday, April 13 at the Chillicothe Country Club. This also will be a good time for council members to urge Mabe to continue the BWC incentive program which apparently is in danger of being killed. For reservations: Safety luncheon reservations.
