After a most trying year, here’s hoping for better days in 2010 By Marvin Jones President and CEO As we head into the final days of 2009, the chamber staff extends its most sincere wishes to all of its members and their families and employees for a great Christmas and a prosperous new year. Rosie Daughters and Elizabeth Camponeschi join me in these wishes this holiday season. It has been our pleasure to continue to serve you, our members, for another year, maybe one of the more trying ones for many of you. The depth of the recession varied for each individual member, but there was no doubt it touched all of us in some form. Through it all, though, many of us remain optimistic that the future will be kinder and bring better fortunes. So, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all!
Courts to get great quarters; Carlisle still there City Council’s decision this week to buy the former AEP building at Main and Mulberry streets means a major anchor in the downtown district gets filled and Municipal Court gets to move out of antiquated quarters and into a modern facility. The community will be proud following the transition. The decision also leaves on the table, though, the mess that still exists with the Carlisle Building. The best hope here is that the mayor, the council, the owners and those who truly might be able to effect restoration convene an open session to lay out all options and alternatives so that the most promising ones can be seriously explored. With two new members and a new president, the 2010 council has an opportunity to be the one that actually gets something done – seven years after the fire that dramatically altered our downtown.

Heaters also will mean the patio season can be extended by about two months, he said.New lighting will highlight the archecture.

North Bridge signal may be coming down The traffic signal on North Bridge Street at Aldis and Tractor Supply went to the flashing mode this week as the Ohio Department of Transportation and the city study the situation possibly to remove it. The study lasts until March when the decision probably will be made. With the new signal at Hopetown Road, it may mean this signal isn’t needed.
