Health care network moves southern Ohio to the front
President and CEO The true impact of the $14 million federal grant to link healthcare providers in southern Ohio could be felt very quickly right here in Chillicothe and Ross County. The grant from the Federal Communications Commission means high-speed, state-of-the-art fiber optic connectivity to the Internet will be available to nearly all hospitals, clinics, urgent care centers, doctors’ offices and other providers in 15 counties in southern Ohio. That should mean that when you complete your medical history and it is entered into the computer, it will be accessible to any other provider you might need to visit, meaning you won’t have to complete new paperwork. This should mean that when you have an MRI in the hospital, the doctor reading the results can do it in his or her office. And it means that MRI can be transmitted in the event you need to be transferred to another facility. This should mean that when you have your routine blood tests, the results are appended to your personal record and follow you for the rest of your life, to be compared to newer tests when needed. This should mean the medicines you are taking become a part of your record and, again, follow you everywhere, eliminating the need to duplicate the information. This should mean a reduction in the potential for medical treatment errors because of the comprehensive record that will be available to your nurses, doctors, specialists and anyone else in your healthcare world. This should mean southern Ohioans will get better care quicker, maybe even better and quicker than those in many metropolitan areas. “The Southern Ohio Health Care Network will have a significant impact in the health and well-being of everyone in this region,” said Mark Shuter, president and CEO of the Adena Health System which is overseeing the project along with the O’Bleness Health System based in Athens.
Downtown has new website Just as the Carlisle Building is literally rising from the ashes, a newly designed website is up and running to tout the attributes of the historic downtown district as well as provide information 24/7 to current and potential investors. The website with the same URL as the previous one, www.downtownchillicothe.com, now has information about the Downtown Chillicothe Partnership working to enact provisions from the HyettPalma plan as well as a listing of properties for sale, lease or rent in the district. In the future, plans include adding information for shoppers, information on the city’s Design Review Board and anything else related to the improvement of the district. The site was designed by Opulent Source and will have links to other sites, such as the chamber, visitors bureau and city government.
NEW STATION HAS THE SPIRIT: Holiday music will fill the airwaves of WSRW at 106.5 FM until the new format is unveiled after Christmas, said Dan Latham, general manager of the area Clear Channel Communications stations. Latham, left, had help throwing the switch Wednesday evening to begin the broadcast from Chris Manegold of the Economic Development Alliance of Southern Ohio and Mayor Joe Sulzer. WSRW joins WKKJ on the FM side and WBEX and WCHI on the AM side for the local Clear Channel outlets.

GUIDE NOT SPONSORED BY CHAMBER OR BUREAU: Apparently chamber members and other businesses are being called to advertise in a community guide-type publication and are being given the impression it is sponsored or endorsed by the chamber or visitors bureau. It is not being sponsored by either of us as sales have closed both for the chamber directory and the visitors guide for next year.
NEWEST MEMBERS: Here’s who’s joined the chamber recently:
