Vacant buildings
getting new uses

A new Subway restaurant is going into the former paint store on High Street while the former Horizon PCS building downtown will have several new tenants in the coming months.

Tom Haynes, owner of the Subways on Western Avenue, Bridge Street, East Main Street and in Wal-Mart, is remodeling the former Neff's Color Shop at the corner of High and Buckeye streets for his next restaurant. He said the exterior renovation will take a few weeks and when warmer weather hits, the parking lot can be paved to allow drive-through service. If all goes well, he said it should be open in early April.

Academy for Kids and Images Unique will be the first businesses in the renovated Horizon PCS building (former Lynch dealership) on East Main Street. Preliminary plans submitted to the city called for a cafe in the front portion, the day care in the rear, a coffee lounge on the first floor, a sanctuary/multipurpose area in the front on the second floor and offices in the rear on the second floor. In all, there is 29,415 square feet. A sprinkler system also is being installed.
