In more than 10 years, the chamber’s Leadership program has turned out more than 100 graduates who now are using their skills and knowledge as better employees for their businesses and organizations. Now is the time to look around your business or organization to determine who you want to benefit from the next class. The curriculum reflects a more hands-on, out-in-the-field experiences than classroom-type settings. Each morning session is led by Steve Hummel of Transitions Unlimited!, a presenter with years of experience teaching leadership and management techniques. September: "Who are you ... really?"
In this two-day introductory session, learn your personality traits and how to use them to become a better leader and begin the planning process for the project the class has to complete before the end of the term in May. This session will be held at InfoSight, one of Ross County's most innovative businesses.

October: "Mission, Vision, and Values: It's All About Leadership"
Learn about mission, vision and values during the day that begins at the Heritage Center, and wraps up at Adena Mansion and Gardens.

November: "Cool That Bubbling Cauldron Inside"
Learn how leaders control their anger and manage conflict in a day that is spent at the Lighthouse Youth Center near Bainbridge.

December: "Hut 1, Hut 2, Hut 3: It's All About the Team"
Learn about group and team dynamics and development in a day spent at Adena Regional Medical Center and the Scioto Paint Valley Mental Health Center.

January 9, 2008: "You Mean You Can't Do That?"
The best leaders have an ethical instinct when getting things accomplished. Participants will get an up-close lesson during their sessions and tours of the Kenworth Truck Co. plant and Glatfelter.

February 13, 2008: "It's a Kaleidoscopic World Out There"
Leadership comes in all shapes, colors and sizes. Session to include lectures along with visits to the First Baptist Church, the Presbyterian Church Manse that served as a stop on the Underground Railroad, and Dard Hunter Studios to learn about early local art and printing.

March 12, 2008: "If It Ain't Broke, Break It!"
Learn how to lead during times of change in a day spent in downtown Chillicothe with tours of the courthouse, the city building and the law complex/jail. A panel of local government leaders will discuss their leadership roles in the community.

April 9, 2008: "Smaller Can be Better"
Size doesn't matter when it comes to surviving in the business world. Small business owners in the downtown area will talk about their trials and tribulations and economic development specialists will discuss what's on the horizon for the region.

May 14, 2008: "The Next Step"
Leaders know how to manage meetings, partner with their boards, and become involved with the community. The day is spent at the Ross County Service Center with the “Survivor” session to kick-off the day followed by speakers from various community service agencies, and a community organization service fair. The graduation/celebration dinner is in the evening.

• A middle manager who is relatively new to the community and who will benefit by knowing the resources available locally. Participants form bonds that become a business network that can last a lifetime.
• Those who will benefit from learning the dynamics of working with a diverse group of people in terms of age, occupations, sex, geographical backgrounds, etc.
• A new business owner who is relatively new to the community who also will benefit from first-hand knowledge of key people, agencies and other businesses. (Someone, though, would need to be able to run the business for the one day each month in the case of very small businesses.)
• Natives of the area who feel they need and want a deeper understanding of how the community works.
• Employees who have responsibilities that include knowledge of various government, educational and other organizations.
• Anyone who has an interest in the dynamics of leadership and management.
• Before committing to the program, employers and participants need to know:
• Participants will be unavailable for work one day each month (the second Wednesday of each month) from September through May. After two absences, participants will not be allowed to continue and tuition will not be reimbursed.
• The class will work on a community service project that might require a little more time away from work, but that can easily be coordinated.
• After graduation, the participants will have a new-found respect for and knowledge of the community that you as the employer have as an additional resource. In addition, the employer gets an employee who has been exposed to many different ideas in the fields of management and leadership.
