Chillicothe Ross Chamber of Commerce
Weekly Update October 18, 2002
THE BRIDGE IS OPEN!
The patience of motorists, of out-of-towners and most especially of business owners in the area was much appreciated during the construction of the new bridge over the Scioto River. Thanks to good weather and the efforts of the construction company, the bridge opened Thursday afternoon about six weeks ahead of the scheduled completion date. And it sure looks great and will be a super gateway to the community for next year’s state bicentennial celebration.
NETWORKING LUNCHEON NEXT FRIDAY: Matt Allen, Chillicothe’s development director, will be the main speaker at Friday’s Networking Luncheon. It will be at the Ross County Service Center on Western Avenue from noon to 1 p.m. Allen will be talking about recent downtown improvements and the services offered by his office. We need registrations by 5 p.m. Thursday. Call Carrie at 702-2722.

BIG WINNERS: Annette Smith was the winner of the goody-filled basket at Wednesday’s Business After Business at the Herrnstein auto dealership on Marietta Road. The basket was the work of Linda Herrnstein and kept with a German theme as Oktoberfest was celebrated, complete with the polka music of Lloyd Savage and the singing of Bob Hess. The event was co-sponsored by Kerr Wholesale. Other winners in the raffle, which netted $154 for the Pathfinders program, were Newman Rutherford who won a Coors Light golf bag and Andy Tomlinson who won a beer stein.
POTENTIAL NEW BUSINESS SEEKS SITE: A truck repair company that is looking to open in this area is in need of a structure it could lease that would accommodate (or currently has) a 14-foot door and room to work on one truck and has space for a small office. Interested parties should contact Dona Smith at the Community Improvement Corp. at 702-2720.
A MEAL FOR A GOOD CAUSE: The annual Rotary Club Pancake Day is Monday, Nov. 4 at the Ross County YMCA. The cost is $6 for all the pancakes you can eat plus two sausage patties. The hours are 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4:30-6:30 p.m. Tickets are available from any Rotary member or stop by the chamber office.
NEW DEVELOPMENT OPENING: An open house is set this weekend at the new Autumn Woods condominiums off Western Avenue. A model home will be open, but the clubhouse is not yet complete. Hours are noon to 6 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday.
NEW WORKFORCE MANAGER: Lynette Reed began Monday as the chamber’s new workforce development manager. The Huntington High School graduate has experience in both private business and the government, most recently coming from the Pickaway County Job and Family Services agency as a case manager in the Workforce Investment Network. Have an opening or two in your business to fill? Give Lynette a call at 702-2722.
COMBINING RESOURCES: The Ross County Community Improvement Corp. is taking the lead in a new venture called the Ohio Resource Triangle. It brings together the economic development programs in Ross, Gallia, Jackson, Vinton, Pickaway and Fayette counties along with Rickenbacker International Airport and Canal Winchester in Fairfield County.
