| Maybe you're a new member to the chamber or you've been a member for awhile but have decided it's time to take an active role in the chamber's affairs. The chamber has several committees and activities you might want to consider. Here's an overview of what we have to offer:
This is the governing body of the chamber. It is composed of 15-22 members at any one time, elected using the rules outlined in the organization's bylaws. Directors serve three-year terms and can be re-elected once. Terms run February 1 through January 31. Meetings are held monthly at various locations at noon and usually last 60-90 minutes. Directors normally are chosen from within the ranks of volunteers who serve on other committees so that they gain chamber experience first. From the Board of Directors, an Executive Committee is composed from the chairman, vice chairman, treasurer, secretary, past chairman and one or two officers chosen by the Nominating Committee. Membership and Events Committee Providing opportunities for members to mingle, share knowledge and become acquainted with other members is the focus of this committee. It is responsible for planning and executing the annual dinner, the Business Expo and the monthly membership luncheons held at least four times a year and the annual membership drive.
Community Development and Advocacy Keeping chamber members abreast of community and governmental issues that affect the local business environment is the mission of this committee.
Leadership Chillicothe Ross Grooming the local leaders of tomorrow and giving current leaders a broader base of knowledge is what the chamber's leadership program is all about. Each year, the program goes for one Wednesday a month for nine months and participants select community projects that will help their leadership and team-building skills. The program and curriculum is developed by a steering committee which includes program graduates. The program itself is open to anyone and is tuition based. Applications are taken generally during the summer months. For more on the program, follow this link: Leadership program. Here are members of the Steering Committee:
For more than 30 years, the Safety Council has been teaching employers and employees methods on ways to have safe working environments. The program is funded directly from the Ohio Bureau of Workers Compensation and the level of funding depends on the participation rate of council members. Luncheons are held monthly except during the summer and feature speakers and programs which give real-life solutions to real-life problems. To learn more, follow this link: Safety Council.
